The Valle Erro winery was founded in the early 1960s on the initiative of Lorenzo Malfatti who, born and raised on his parents’ small and modest farm, was able to expand and transform the business with a life dedicated to work, conquering ever-increasing numbers over the years. consent from the consumer.
Valle Erro is today run by Lorenzo’s sons, the brothers Marco and Roberto Malfatti, who are committed with love and professionalism to continuing their parents’ work, combining the experience acquired over the years with youthful enthusiasm.
The village
In the heart of the Erro Valley at 236 meters above sea level, a little away from the road that leads to the Ligurian sea, here is Cartosio, a small hill town of just 800 inhabitants. The current town of Cartosio is believed to have arisen around the year one thousand. The inhabitants moved there because it was more suitable for defense. The town was essentially divided into two parts: one from the tower to the church and the other consisting of the current square, which was smaller at the time.
Both surrounded by walls and divided between them by a moat.
In the first part, a truly fortified place, the ancient church was also located. The current parish of Sant’Andrea, patron saint of the town, was built in 1619 on the remains of the previous one and has valuable nineteenth-century decorations inside.
The second was the inhabited part called Airali. The entrance to the town with a drawbridge was located between the two parts. Of all these great fortification works, the tower constituted the last defense in the event of a siege. Recent restorations have made the tower accessible via stairs and ancient objects from the peasant world have been displayed on the internal walls.
Today Cartosio is an agricultural town, which preserves the traditions of the past in the culture of its inhabitants.
From the vineyard..
Our vineyards are located in one of the most renowned areas for wine production, where the climate, soil and sun exposure create a unique terroir: we are talking about Monferrato. Monferrato is famous for a vast range of native and international vines. Among the most representative we find Barbera, Grignolino, Dolcetto and Moscato. Each vine expresses the character and richness of the territory, giving wines that range from robust and structured reds to aromatic and delicate whites. In 2014, the wine-growing landscape of Monferrato was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a recognition that celebrates the beauty and cultural importance of this region. This prestigious title underlines the excellence and global relevance of Monferrato as a leading wine-growing area.
..to the cellar
Once in the cellar, the grapes are carefully processed. We use traditional techniques to transform the fruit of the earth into wine. Fermentation takes place under close supervision to control temperature and times, ensuring that each variety best expresses its characteristics. Our journey from the vineyard to the cellar culminates with the tasting. Each bottle is a unique expression of our commitment and passion. We invite you to visit our cellar, where you can taste our wines and discover the history that makes them so special. The new cellar, born thanks to the great commitment and entrepreneurial skills of Lorenzo Malfatti, was designed and built with large and spacious rooms, making it effective with increasingly modern equipment capable of guaranteeing the best qualitative results. Great attention is paid to the quality and care of the products with careful selection and rigorous control in all processing phases.
